Glasgow Botanic Gardens
Club members met outside the Kibble Palace in the Botanic Gardens for opening time on Saturday, 9th May. Usually, at this time, this would allow for some clear scenes and creative angles within the magnificent structure. However, the Scottish Orchid Society was presenting its annual exhibition and fair, which brought the public early into the glasshouse. Just as with changing light, this presented different opportunities for the keen photographers - close-up/macro images of the orchids and people shots.
Gradually the park became busier in all areas - glasshouses, gardens, woodland paths, bench seats and the lawns. More opportunities, but for some, this was time for refreshments at the tea room before that became too busy.
Some had other appointments and left, while the remainder continued in their pursuits. An introduction to the photographic style of Pep Ventosa - ‘photography in the round’ - was provided for some. With images in the camera, part two - the processing - will follow at a later date.
As the afternoon progressed, a brief shower of rain provided opportunity for those umbrella shots and raindrops on glass - no chances were overlooked. Could there be that last shot to satisfy one of the theme competitions next season - solitude or nostalgia? No one was declaring their hand and all will be revealed when future competition entries are assessed.
