VIEWFINDER MAGAZINE

Many years ago, I forget exactly how many, when some amateur photographers still lived in caves and therefore needed cameras that could operate without batteries, Douglas Schaschke had an idea. Although the club had learned to regard Douglas's ideas with some suspicion, this was an excellent one.

He launched a club magazine which he titled `The Viewfinder` which he published several times per session. This entailed a great deal of work and eventually, as I remember it, Douglas sort of ran out of steam so an immensely popular feature of club life was lost to us. Although the magazine included a variety of articles, interviews etc, the most memorable features were Douglas's hilarious satirical cartoons and Ken Cairns' equally satirical photography focussed short stories.

With the committee's blessing I approached Ken recently and was pleased to discover that he had retained copies of these stories and so I have uploaded what I hope will be the first of a series. I have asked Ken to contact Douglas which should result in the appearance of some of his very perceptive, if not always kind, cartoons. Meantime I have uploaded a sample of his work as an appetiser.

I hope that you will enjoy this new feature of the website.
