Douglas Schaschke

Douglas Schaschke was a member of Hamilton Camera Club for over twenty five years and was President between 1994 -1996. He was instrumental in launching the Club’s newsletter, “The Viewfinder”, in the 90’s – a good read that hosted much of Douglas’ own brand of very dry humour. Also, around the time of his presidency, he forged relationships with other Hamilton Camera Clubs in Canada and New Zealand that led to the “Three Hamiltons Competitions” and numerous other friendly battles and competitive exchanges.

Prior to the digital revolution, Douglas worked exclusively with slides and he was one of the Club’s most creative and productive exponents of the medium. However, it will probably be for his skills in capturing others in caricature that Douglas will be remembered best. In photographic circles no one escaped his imaginative pen, be they a club member, a visiting judge or a GDPU or SPF official.

Douglas was a much respected pillar of our Club and he will be greatly missed.
